Pine Tree Sculptures and More

Dear Parents,

The children worked two days this week gluing and painting pine tree sculptures to give as gifts. The class is excited!

On Wednesday while half the class was posing in yoga with Tanya, in the classroom we used pine tree pipe cleaners to create more gifts for families. The children used them to make...we'll let them tell you when you open it.

We wrote our classroom rules this week. The class completed the sentence “I like when my friend…” Responses were: plays with me, swings, plays superhero with me, plays dragon robots, and lots more.

We read two Gingerbread Man books. Children noticed similarities and differences right away. One book had only black and white illustrations, while the other had colors. One book had a river, one did not. One boy had two buttons, the other three. Both gingerbread boys got eaten! The class is excited to make gingerbread man cookies next week, and noticed the ingredients already on the counter.

Parents are invited to have Cookies and Milk with us on Friday December 20@ 11:15am. We have been reading some family books and thinking about how much our parents do for us. Therefore, the children will serve the parents cookies and milk.

Happy cold weekend,

Therese

Gift Making

Dear Parents,

We began our week playing in the classroom. We played with our train set, worked puzzles, and colored with crayons. We also ran, climbed,  and tricycled in the big room.

In the classroom we decorated two pine cones each to give as gifts. We  also used our fine motor skills and focus while stringing beads. The children said they wanted to give their gifts to their mamas and daddies. One person said he wanted to keep his.

Our fire station trip was informative. One firefighter said the most important thing to remember is to get out of the building.  He said then we should call 911. One friend asked, “Where will we find a phone?” Another firefighter went upstairs and came down the gold pole, always the most exciting part of the trip! After returning to school, we revisited our list of things we predicted we might see there. The class had predicted everything we saw, except they agreed, we did not see fire boosters. “Fire boosters are on rocket ships,” someone reminded us. Another friend had correctly stated, “We will not see fire there!”

On Friday we decorated bags for our holiday gifts using crayons and markers. During circle we read The Invisible String and took turns sharing who was on the receiving end of our strings. We sang Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes, and shook our sillies out.

The classroom and big room were warm on Thursday and Friday.

Have a warm weekend,

Therese
