The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far

Dear Parents,

We started our week playing Duck, Duck, Goose. It always begins chaotic until everyone figures out which way to run and who is supposed to chase whom. The first game, we didn’t fully figure it out. Some wanted to play another round but a few were having a hard time, so we decided to try again another day.

We read My Friend and I, Biscuit Makes A Friend, Three Friends, and Yo! Yes! Everyone listened intently when two friends were fighting in one of the stories. We talked about how the characters in the books felt when they had a friend, had no friends, or fought with their friends. The class agreed that having friends is more fun than playing alone.

We painted paper plates red to create our apples for our apple tree. Everyone glued their family photo onto our apples. People had the choice of adding sparkles or not. Guess what was the unanimous decision? Next week we will add green stems.

It was a pleasure talking with everyone on Thursday about your offspring!

On Friday we took our fall photo to document the seasons of a tree in our yard. We had been watching every day as the leaves turned from green to yellow. We went inside to make butter for next week's feast. We poured heavy cream into four containers, sealed them up, and shook them like crazy. We guessed how long it would take to turn to butter. The children guessed two seconds to ten seconds. We listened to music and danced while we shook. It took about thirteen minutes, or three 70's disco songs.

Our family feast will take place Wednesday at 11:15am. We will meet in the classroom to sing Way Down Yonder by the Apple Tree while each family places their apples in our family tree. Afterwards we will have our tiny feast. Yum!

See you next week,

Therese
