Dear Parents,
On Monday we took our shoes off and took turns getting measured on our height chart. We noticed some friends were taller and some were the same height. We wondered if our ages had anything to do with how tall we are?
This week we completed our Me Books. We added a bit more color and everyone got to help staple the pages together. We read the books while half the class was in yoga. Everyone was excited to hear and see each other's books.
We asked the class, "What is yoga?" They said yoga was like stretching and moving very slowly. One friend said it was bending and putting your head between your legs, another said his mama and daddy workout every day. We read I Am Yoga. Our first yoga class with Amanda was calm and quiet. Children posed on mats with looking eyes and listening ears.
We have been building with our soft blocks. Children have built a rocket ship, the Great China Wall, a tower, a crane that can transform into something else, and a rectangle that’s like a square. The class agrees that we can knock our own building down, but not a friend's.
We are also playing with some plastic people connectors. They help with color identification, fine motor skills, sharing, shape building, and social skills.
This week we read and reread Bodies Are Cool! The book generated much discussion about different body types: larger and smaller bodies, blind bodies, bodies with prosthetics, and hairy bodies, to mention a few. We looked at our own bodies to see if we were as different as all the bodies portrayed in the book. We are.
On Thursday during circle, we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? We made all the animal sounds that were in the book.
On Friday we played Red Light, Green Light. We used a sign that had a red "Stop!" side and a green "Go!" side. We encouraged looking eyes and listening ears to know when to stop and go. During the game we ran, hopped, galloped, crawled like kittens, stomped like elephants, slithered like snakes, flew like falcons, walked like hippos, snapped like crocodiles and sharks, and much more.
After reading our Me Books a third time we sent them home. Enjoy!
Have a lovely weekend,
Therese
